Arrest made in road rage shooting

Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook said her deputies arrested a suspect in a Friday night, October 7, road rage shooting on Blanding Boulevard.

Timothy Floyd, 57, of Orange Park, was arrested on Oct. 9 for two counts of aggravated battery and one count of shooting or throwing a missile into a vehicle.

Cook said the suspect fired a weapon from his truck at two people in another vehicle while both vehicles were traveling on Blanding Boulevard.

“One person was hit in the shoulder,” Cook said, “and then apparently (with) some glass breakage, the other individual in that vehicle was hit by shrapnel. They both had to be transported to the hospital. They are both doing O.K.”

“We had several witnesses that came forward that night,” she added, “and gave us fantastic descriptions of not only the suspect vehicle but also the suspect.”

Cook said that the following night, a deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and made a traffic stop.

Under questioning, Floyd confessed to the shooting.

“What he did was very dangerous,” Cook said. “We’re so fortunate that we don’t have a whole lot of violent crime in Clay County, and when an incident like this occurs, it’s scary.”

“We’re not going to have any of that in Clay County,” the sheriff added. “I’m absolutely committed to keeping this community safe.”
